Cadence

Usefulness
2/10 · Safe to ignore

Cadence Definition

How many steps you take per minute while running. Normally measured in Steps Per Minute or SPM.

When it helps

Occasionally, as background information about your form.

When it doesn't

As something to actively change mid-run. Forcing a number tends to make your form worse.

The common myth

The myth: every runner must hit 180 steps per minute. The reality: 180 came from watching elites at race pace, unfortunately, most of us are not elites at race pace.
