Common question - Running Shoes

What shoes are best for new runners?

There is no exact answer to this. Generally though, seeing an expert in person, having a gait analysis done, and investing in a decent pair of shoes is always worthwhile.

When you take a step during a run, you put the equivalent of 4x your body weight through your foot and lower limbs, that's a lot of force.

Since in our modern lives, we don't tend to run or move much without shoes on, our joints, ligaments and tendons aren't prepared for this much force.

A good pair of shoes with adequate cushioning helps you absorb this force safely, so getting a pair of shoes that fit, have the cushioning you need is very important.

Are shoes with more cushioning always better?

No. The amount of cushioning or height of a shoe (stack) does help you absorb impact, but it also carries the risk of being unstable and can lead to rolled ankles, not new personal bests.

There is no one size fits all, talking to an expert in persona and getting the right shoe for you is the only answer.
