Pace (current / average / lap) Definition
How long it takes you to cover a set distance, usually minutes per kilometre or per mile.
- "Average" is across the whole run
- "lap" is the current segment. For most runs, this is the current km or mile you're in so far
- "current" is right now in that moment
So if on your run, it takes you 5 minutes to run an entire kilometre, then your average pace would look like: 5:00/km.
When it helps
It's useful at almost all times. If you're racing and aiming for a time, knowing what your average pace needs to be can really help you hit your goals for example.
