Sports Bra

Yes. For women this is as essential as the shoes. A proper high-impact sports bra prevents real discomfort and strain, and a regular bra won't do the job.

How useful for a beginner

Essential

Essential, and one of the few areas where spending more genuinely buys you something. A poor-fitting or low-support bra is a leading reason women find running painful and stop. This is not the place to economise.

What it does

A running sports bra limits breast movement during impact, which reduces pain, chafing and long-term strain on the supporting ligaments. Running generates far more movement than everyday activity, and the right bra is engineered for it with encapsulation, compression, or both, in a high-impact design.

Do you really need a proper sports bra for running?

Yes, if you have breasts to support. A regular or low-impact bra is not enough for running, because the movement is on a different scale. Getting this right is the difference between running being comfortable and running being something you dread.

When should you get Sports Bra?

Before your first proper run. This is genuinely day-one gear, alongside shoes. If you're already running in the wrong bra and it hurts, fix this before anything else on the list.

Who are Sports Bra best for?

Any woman who runs. Larger cup sizes especially benefit from encapsulation-style high-impact bras and should prioritise a proper fitting over price or looks.

The catch

Support degrades as the elastic wears. Replace every 12 months or so of regular use, sooner if it's lost its snugness.
