Running Socks
— Worth it. A few pairs of proper running socks are cheap and genuinely prevent blisters, one of the few small upgrades that pays off immediately.
How useful for a beginner
Worth it
Punches above its price. You won't run faster, but you'll dodge blisters and hot spots, which for beginners building up time on feet is a real quality-of-life win for very little money.
What it does
Running socks are made from synthetic or wool blends that wick sweat and reduce friction, unlike cotton socks which hold moisture and bunch up, the main cause of blisters. Many have a snugger fit and light cushioning in high-impact zones.
Do you need special running socks?
Not strictly, but they're so cheap and so effective that they're an easy yes. The single biggest thing is simply to stop running in cotton socks. That change alone prevents most beginner blisters.
When should you get Running Socks?
Early. Grab a few pairs around the same time as your shoes. If you're getting blisters, this is often the cheapest fix before you blame the shoes.
Who are Running Socks best for?
Everyone, especially anyone prone to blisters or running longer than 30 minutes. Cheap insurance for every runner.
The catch
Premium brands like Balega or Feetures are lovely but you're paying a lot for a marginal upgrade over a decent synthetic sock.
